About the Role A Brooklyn-based non-profit medical referral agency is looking for a curious, detail-oriented Medical Information Assistant to help build out a comprehensive medical hierarchy for their database. This is a research-focused role where you'll dig into the structure of medicine itself how specialties like dermatology branch into subspecialties, how physicians specialize within them, and what defines each field from the ground up. It's the kind of work that rewards intellectual curiosity and methodical thinking, and for the right person, it's a genuine opportunity to grow within the organization as the project evolves.
Key Responsibilities
Medical Specialty Research
Research medical specialties and their underlying subspecialties and building blocks
Understand and document how physicians specialize within each field
Compile findings to support the creation of a structured medical hierarchy
Database Support
Assist with database maintenance to develop familiarity with how the organization's data is structured
Contribute to the accuracy and organization of specialty-related data
Project & Organizational Growth
Collaborate on an evolving, project-based scope with potential to expand into broader organizational responsibilities
Support the organization's larger goals around medical specialties and physician data
Qualifications
Strong research skills and exceptional attention to detail
Genuine interest in medicine, medical terminology, and how the healthcare system is organized
Independent, focused worker who thrives in a quiet, analytical environment
Organized and reliable with the ability to manage ongoing research systematically
