Controller Queens, NY or Lakewood, NJ $130,000 – $160,000 Position Overview A growing commercial real estate company is seeking a strong, hands-on Controller to oversee the accounting and financial operations across a portfolio of commercial properties. This is a high-impact leadership role for someone who can take ownership of the accounting department, manage and develop a team, ensure financials are accurate and timely, and operate as a key partner to ownership. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, organized, and comfortable overseeing the full accounting function in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities Oversee day-to-day accounting operations across multiple properties Manage month-end close and ensure accurate, timely financial reporting Supervise accounts payable, accounts receivable, tenant billing, and collections Review CAM reconciliations, tenant ledgers, and lease-related accounting Oversee payroll review, reporting, and financial allocations Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements Monitor budgets, forecasts, cash flow, and overall financial performance Provide reporting and financial analysis to ownership and investors Manage and mentor the accounting team while improving workflows and processes Assist with audits, tax preparation, and regulatory compliance Help implement systems and process improvements to support company growth Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field 4–5+ years of accounting experience required Prior experience in commercial real estate or property accounting Experience overseeing accounting operations and managing staff preferred Strong understanding of financial reporting, month-end close, AP/AR, and reconciliations Experience with CAM reconciliations and NNN leases preferred Strong Excel and financial analysis skills Experience with Yardi, MRI, AppFolio, or similar property management/accounting systems preferred Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills Ability to operate independently and take ownership of the function Benefits Health Insurance Dental Insurance Vision Insurance PTO + Paid Holidays Hybrid flexibility available depending on candidate location and fit Email resumes to ahuva@maiplacement.com
