CAD Production Drafter / Engineer – Custom Cabinetry & Millwork
Newark, NJ
$80,000–$120,000
Schedule:
Monday–Thursday: 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM
Friday: Winter until 12:00 PM | Summer until 1:00 PM
If you can take a design concept and turn it into clean, buildable, production-ready drawings, this role gives you real ownership.
About the Role
We’re hiring a CAD Production Drafter / Engineer to support custom cabinetry and millwork projects from concept to shop floor.
This is not a design-only position. You will translate architectural plans and interior concepts into accurate shop drawings, part breakdowns, and CNC-ready files that drive efficient production. Your work directly impacts how smoothly projects move through the shop.
You will sit between design and manufacturing and be accountable for getting it right before it hits production.
What You’ll Own
• Produce detailed shop drawings and complete production documentation
• Build 3D models and part breakdowns from architectural drawings and sketches
• Generate CNC-ready files including nested layouts and DXF outputs
• Translate design intent into accurate, buildable components
• Coordinate with project managers, CNC operators, and shop leadership
• Specify hardware and construction details
• Maintain drawing standards and organized part libraries
• Identify and solve technical issues before they impact the floor
Must-Haves
• Experience drafting for cabinetry, millwork, woodworking, or related manufacturing
• Strong working knowledge of 2D/3D CAD software (AutoCAD or similar)
• Solid understanding of cabinet construction, joinery, and production flow
• Ability to convert architectural drawings into precise, production-ready outputs
Nice-to-Haves
• Exposure to CNC panel processing or nesting workflows
• Experience generating CAM files or supporting CNC programming
• Background in custom residential or commercial buildouts
• Hands-on shop, fabrication, or installation experience
What Success Looks Like
First 90 Days
• Producing accurate shop drawings with minimal revision
• Comfortable coordinating directly with shop leadership
• Delivering clean CNC-ready files that run efficiently
First 6 Months
• Independently managing multiple active projects
• Reducing shop-floor questions through clear documentation
• Improving drawing standards and production accuracy
If you have most of this experience and are confident you can take ownership of the drafting process, we’d like to hear from you. Strong adjacent manufacturing backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
