Tax Department Manager
Our client, a CPA firm, is seeking a results-driven Tax Department Manager with expertise in managing tax operations and leading high-performing teams within a public accounting environment. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the tax department, ensuring the timely and accurate preparation and review of tax filings, while mentoring staff, managing client relationships, and contributing to the strategic growth of the department. Responsibilities: Lead and manage a team of tax professionals to ensure timely and accurate preparation and review of individual, corporate, and partnership tax returns. Oversee tax compliance for clients, ensuring all federal, state, and local tax filings are completed on time and by regulatory standards. Review complex tax returns and provide technical guidance to junior staff on tax law, compliance, and planning strategies. Monitor tax law changes and ensure the team is informed and procedures are updated to maintain compliance and optimize client strategies. Serve as the primary point of contact for high-value clients, addressing inquiries, managing expectations, and delivering high-quality service. Mentor, train, and evaluate team members, creating professional development plans to support growth and improve performance. Collaborate with firm leadership to set departmental goals, implement process improvements, and align tax operations with firm-wide objectives. Assist in business development efforts, including onboarding new clients, participating in networking events, and identifying new service opportunities. Qualifications: 5+ years of progressive tax experience in public accounting, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role. CPA license required, with in-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local tax codes and compliance requirements. Strong leadership and team-building skills, with proven experience guiding and motivating tax professionals to meet deadlines and exceed expectations. Excellent technical tax skills, including experience with complex returns and planning strategies for individuals, corporations, and partnerships. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present findings and recommendations to clients and internal stakeholders. Proficiency in tax preparation and research software such as ProSystem fx, UltraTax, or CCH Axcess, and strong Excel capabilities. Detail-oriented and analytical, with strong organizational skills to manage multiple priorities and client engagements. Demonstrated ability to develop client relationships, resolve issues effectively, and contribute to the firm's growth and reputation. Location: Monsey, NY Salary: $150K
