This Privacy Policy describes how Unclassified (“Unclassified,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use unclassified.community and related services (the “Service”).

Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly to us, including when you create an account, post a listing, contact a poster, subscribe to a city digest, or otherwise interact with the Service. This includes your name, email address, mobile phone number, and any content you submit in a listing.

We also aggregate publicly available classifieds from community papers, websites, WhatsApp groups, and other public sources, and we may pair those listings with contact information that the original poster published.

We automatically collect technical information when you use the Service, such as IP address, device and browser type, pages viewed, referring URLs, and approximate location derived from your IP. We use cookies and similar technologies for authentication, analytics, and remembering your preferences.

How We Use Information

To operate the Service, including displaying listings and matching searches.
To create and secure your account, verify your identity, and prevent fraud.
To send transactional emails and SMS messages related to your account and listings.
To deliver the weekly city digest to subscribers who have opted in.
To respond to inquiries and provide customer support.
To analyze usage and improve the Service.
To comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.

SMS Communications and Mobile Information

By providing your mobile phone number during account registration or when posting a listing on Unclassified (unclassified.community), you consent to receive SMS text messages from us. These messages may include:

One-time passcodes for account login and verification
Notifications when you receive an inquiry on a listing you posted
Listing status updates, including expiration reminders
Account-related alerts and security notifications

Message Frequency. Message frequency varies based on your account activity.

Message and Data Rates. Standard message and data rates may apply, depending on your mobile carrier and plan.

Opt-Out. You may opt out of SMS messages at any time by replying STOP to any message you receive from us. After opting out, you will receive a confirmation message and will no longer receive SMS messages from Unclassified. You may opt back in at any time by replying START.

Help. For help, reply HELP to any message, or contact us at office@unclassified.community.

Mobile Information Sharing. We do not share, sell, rent, or lease your mobile phone number or SMS opt-in data with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Mobile information may be shared with service providers that help us deliver SMS messages (such as our telecommunications provider) solely for the purpose of operating the SMS service.

Supported Carriers. SMS messaging is available on major U.S. mobile carriers. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only as described below:

Publicly visible content. Listings you post — including any contact information you include in them — are displayed publicly on the Service and may appear in search engines.
Service providers. We use third-party providers for authentication, email delivery, SMS delivery, OCR, analytics, hosting, and storage. They process information solely on our behalf and under contract.
Legal compliance. We may disclose information when required by law, subpoena, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Unclassified, our users, or others.
Business transfers. If Unclassified is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction.

The above excludes text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.

Your Choices

You can edit or delete your listings at any time from your account.
You can unsubscribe from email digests by clicking the unsubscribe link in any digest email.
You can opt out of SMS messages by replying STOP, as described above.
You can request deletion of your account by contacting office@unclassified.community.

Data Retention

We retain personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Expired listings may be retained in our archive for historical reference.

Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Effective” date at the top of this page. Material changes will be communicated through the Service or by email.
